Hello! I'm Vicky and I'm passionate about all things upholstery..
I operate my business from my home workshop near Denby Dale, West Yorkshire.
I primarily work on upholstery commissions for clients which includes...
- chairs of all descriptions (especially treasured ones)
- small settees
- footstools, ottomans
- made to measure cushions - bench seats, window seats, garden and campervan cushions
In the gallery are some examples of my work. If you like what you see, please get in touch to see how I can create something for you.
If you're considering having an item upholstered, below is some useful information. I will be able to advise on what is most appropriate for your own piece of furniture.
Where the existing fillings are still in good condition, a recover may be sufficient which means taking off the top cover of fabric and replacing with a new fabric. Some additional padding may be required for softness.
Re-upholstery is often required on older furniture or where the fillings are worn or damaged. It involves stripping back your piece of furniture either partially or fully, to the bare frame, which can then be rebuilt with new fillings before re-covering.
'Modern' upholstery is built up using foam and other man-made fillings and generally fixed by stapling. It is the most common upholstery found in furniture today.
Antique furniture tends to be 'traditionally upholstered', usually filled with animal hair and other natural fibres. Traditional upholstery is a painstaking process involving building up the many layers with stuffing, stitching and tacking, all done by hand. Sometimes a blend of modern and traditional techniques can be used on older furniture.
